SEO Services for Small Businesses
Practical, ongoing SEO support for SMEs
Most small businesses don’t need a one-off SEO fix. They need someone who understands their website, knows their market, and can keep things moving in the right direction over time.
That’s how I work with most of my clients — on a rolling monthly basis, focused on whatever will have the most impact at any given point. No rigid service packages, no long-term lock-in. Just consistent, evidence-led work that builds visibility steadily and sustainably.
Everything I do is built around three core principles: Clarity, Content and Credibility. You can read more about what those mean and why they matter on my SEO Framework page.
How I typically work
I tend to work with clients on a monthly retainer basis, which begins with an initial commitment then moves to a monthly rolling contract (see below).
We would usually begin with an SEO Review. This gives us both a clear, honest picture of where your website stands — what’s working, what’s holding it back, and where the real opportunities are.
It’s the foundation for everything that follows. Without it, any SEO work is essentially guesswork.
Based on the review, we agree on a focus for the first few months. That might be getting your content strategy right, improving existing pages, building your authority in a particular area, or a combination of all three. The plan is shaped by your business objectives, your competitive landscape, and what’s realistic given your resources.
From there, work continues on a rolling basis, focusing on the highest-priority tasks — whether that’s research, content, optimisation, or authority building – with regular reporting built in.
You’re not locked into a long commitment, but the work compounds over time — which is where the real results come from.
How the retainer works
Most clients come on board for an initial three-month period. This gives us enough time to complete the SEO Review, agree a plan, and start putting it into practice. Three months is also long enough to begin seeing how the work is taking shape, even if the full results take longer to come through.
After that, the engagement moves to a rolling monthly contract. There’s no fixed term and no pressure to commit to anything beyond the coming month. If your priorities change or you decide to pause, all you need is one month’s notice.
The flexibility is intentional. SEO works best when it’s consistent, but it should also fit around your business, not the other way around.
What the work involves
Depending on where you are and what you need, ongoing work typically draws on some combination of the following:

SEO Review
The starting point for every engagement. A thorough look at how your website is currently performing and what needs attention.

Keyword Research & Strategy
Understanding how your audience searches, what the competitive landscape looks like, and where you have a realistic chance to be found.

Content Strategy & Creation
Planning, creating and optimising content that works for your customers, helps search engines understand your website, and positions you well in the searches that matter.

Authority Building
Developing the external signals — brand mentions, links, and references from credible sources — that tell search engines your website is worth ranking.

SEO Reporting
Clear, regular reporting that keeps you informed about what’s changing, what’s working, and what needs attention next.
Is this right for you?
This approach works best for businesses that are committed to building visibility over time and want a clear, consistent strategy rather than a series of disconnected projects.
It’s particularly well suited to you if:
- Your website isn’t generating the enquiries or traffic you’d expect
- You’ve tried SEO before but never felt clear on what you were getting or why
- You want someone who can take ownership of this area without you having to manage every detail
- You’re ready to invest consistently, but want flexibility and transparency in how that investment is used
If you’re not sure whether now is the right time, or what level of commitment makes sense for your situation, the best starting point is a conversation.
Let’s talk
If you’d like to explore what working together might look like, I’m happy to have an informal conversation — no obligation, no hard sell.
We can talk through where your website is now, what you’re hoping to achieve, and whether a retainer engagement makes sense for your business.
